Having various skills help a person to develop communication and teamwork skills effectively. By analyzing communication models a person can choose the effective communication model to communicate within the team or in the workplace. Proper communication skills are the prerequisite to understanding the situation of a particular person in the team. It is not important to follow all communication models at the same time but it is very important to follow a particular model.
To improve the functional activities within an organization to reach the destination, teamwork and communication skills are very important. Effective teamwork and communication models help the organization to maintain the proper channel to keep running the activities within the organization. There are various models of communication to follow in the terms of organizational development and teamwork improvement. This paper aims to demonstrate the models of communication and the skills that aid to improve the poor communication system.
Models of Communication
The communication model has consisted of various parts that work in different aspects to link among peoples in a group or a particular organization. Communication models are developed by scholars in the perspective to communicate in a short time. There are various models of communication that help to do the teamwork effectively.
Linear Communication Model
The linear communication model is a one-way communicating system that was developed by Shannon and Weaver around 1949. In this communication model, there are almost six strategies that are followed linearly.
Information Sender or Source: In this model, the sender sends a bunch of information to a specific destination by using a proper channel or a tube.
Encoder or Transmitter: In this model, the transmitter helps to encode the information or massage into a particular signal and sends it through the tube to the destination.
Channeling: Through the channel, information can be sent to the receiver person. The channel can be cable-based or online channels such as emailing channels.
Noise Source: In the time of sending the message to the destination, there can be various types of sounds operated such as calm noise, or crowd noise.
Receiver or Decoder: In this model, the decoder helps to convert the signals into the original information as the receiver can see the information properly.
Destination of the Information: In this model, the destination or goal indicates the ultimate target where the information will be destined and the receiver will be able to use the information. If the receiver wants to respond to the information then the receiver has to follow the system as the sender followed to send the information.
Communication Model of Berlo
Berlo developed the linear communication model to make it easier to send information from one person to another. David Berlo developed this model in 1960 as the expanded model of linear communication model. This model has consisted of mainly six systems such as source, message, channel, decoding, and receiver.
Source: The first part of the model is the source as like a linear communication model. The source part sends the information to the destination by the following process.
Message: As the linear communication model designated, the message is the main information that sends from the source to the destination.
Channel: Channel indicates the proper way to send information to the destination by encoding and decoding the message.
Decoding: Decoding helps to transmit the information into the channel by using signals.
The receiver: In this model, the receiver is the last section to communicate with the two people.
Schramm’s Communication Model
This model is a comparatively weak model than the previous two models to communicate between the people. This communication model is also complex as this model is not very available to link up between two people. In this model, the sender can send information to the receiver by following the codebook. This model is a continual process rather than the exchanging method of transmitting information from one person to another person. This communication model has mainly sender, message, channel, and receiver.
Sender: The developer of this model uses to demonstrate the model in four parts. The sender is the first part of the model. The sender can say as the source of the information that sends any information to the destination.
Message: In this communication model, the message can be said as the information that will be sent to the receiver.
Channel: It is possible to maintain the gateway to transmit the information to the receiver.
Destination: In-destination section, a receiver will receive the information that has already been sent by the source person or the sender by maintaining the process through a specific gateway.
Communication Skills and the Ways to Helping my Understanding
Communication and teamwork skills are the basic skills that help a person to reach the destination by following steps. To understand properly, communication skills can be very helpful for a person. The main communication skills are as follows:
Listening skill: Listening skill is the first skill among the communication skills that helps a person to understand the situation properly. By listening carefully, a person can understand the main thing.
Sharing feedback: After listening to the speaker, a person should give feedback as the speaker can continue the discussion. Without giving feedback, the understanding skill will not increase.
Following Proper Communication Method: Using proper communication methods is a prerequisite to developing understanding skills. If an individual follows the wrong method to communicate with each other, then the person will not be able to develop his skills to understand the situation.
Friendliness: This is also very important to understand the situation and this skill also helps to increase the communication system. A positive outlook to the listener or the speaker is very important to develop communication skills. This skill helped me to understand the motives of my friends as well as the main theme of the speaker.
Confidence: A high level of confidence is a very prominent skill that helps to understand the situation effectively. When a person has no confidence in himself, then the person will not be able to understand the terms properly.
Empathy: A person should show proper empathy to the listener as he can understand the speech properly. Showing empathy also includes the emotional aspects of a person. If a person shows empathy to his subordinates or workers then they will be able to understand the condition as expected.
Show Respect: The tendency to show respect is very important to understand the situation properly. If a person does not show respect to communicate with another person, then the aim of the communication can fail.
Responsiveness: It is very important to be responsive to the sender as well as the speaker. When a person wants to know the comment after saying something, it is very effective to understand the consciousness of the people whether they are listening or not. It is the duty of the listeners that they will be responsive to the speaker or the information sender via email or something else.
Perfect Body language: By analyzing body language, it can measure the communication level of any specific person. When a person shows perfect body language during the speaking, it can be very helpful for the listener to understand the speech of the speaker. And this skill also helps to understand the situation effectively.
Ways of Improvement of Poor Communication System
The main challenges of the communication system are the misunderstandings among the people. If a listener does not respond to the speaker properly, then the communication between those can be facing barriers. The main poor communication processes are as follows:
Establishing standard communication level: Among the persons, establishing a proper communication level is very important to improve the poor communication system in the team or the professional life. If any team maintains the proper communication process then it will be able to alleviate the poor communication system.
Formal communication Process: Formal communication way is very helpful to alleviate the poor communication system within a group. The formal communication process helps to remove all types of unethical communication ways within the group and this way the communication system.
Giving Proactive Feedback: It is very much important to respond to the team members as they want any help to work in the team. By giving proactive feedback, it is possible to remove the poor communication system from any group.
Following Communication Methods: Poor communication does not alleviate the following any specific communication method within the team. Without following any communication method properly, it is impossible to reduce the poor communication system.
Conclusion and recommendations
Communication and teamwork skills are also very important to communicate with people. As communication skills have different features, it is very important to gain all communication skills to understand the situation properly. Besides attaining communication skills, it is also very important to alleviate poor communication systems. And should focus on developing communication and teamwork skills.
