Five skills that students require to be successful at university

Introduction

In the present world order, the job market has become very competitive. A job applicant can get a job in a competitive market through promoting skills and competencies (Davies, 2011). A student has to prove various skills and competencies to ensure a successful carrier. There is no way to gain success without qualities in the job market. Qualities can be gathered by practising in the right way. At the university stage, a student has to gain some extraordinary skills which must need to be successful in an academic career and the future workplace. In this essay, the author will try to mention those skills which may help in the workplace and university. As there are various skills and qualities to gather, a student should decide which skills are needs for him/her to be successful both in university and future workplace.

Five skills that students require to be successful at university

Leadership skill is the most demandable skills for a student to gain to be successful at university and in future in the professional workplace. A leader can handle everything in favour of strategy. To be successful in the workplace and to apply any fruitful decision in professional life, a student needs to know the system how to manage the situation and have to know how to understand anyone (Karagozlu, 2018).

Creativity and innovative mentality are the most captivating skills that a student has to require to be successful at an academic career at university and in the future workplace. This skill will help a student to cope with problematic situations and will help to manage difficulties within a short time.

Thinking outside the box is a vigorous quality that may help a student in academic and professional life. A student should not be stubborn about anything. A student may think about all possible causes on any occasion (Huffman & Huffman, 2012). This skill will help a student to be successful in both academic and professional life. A student should not put off his or her tasks for the next day, he or she must finish tasks in time. A student should care about the incidental expense of money and should avoid abusing money. A talented student should gather decision-making skills anyhow to be successful in every step, not only in academic career but also in whole life.

According to Karagozlu (2018), time management helps a student to get academic success easily, based on the effective time management a student may ensure to divide the time in daily routine. A student has to be an expert in time management which could give maximum output in the class presentation and academic grade. To upgrade the result a student, have to ensure hard-working which ultimately ensures a good and creative result.

In the workplace a leader or manager even a general employee has to ensure effective time management. For example, to deliver the products and services in time, the manager has to proper uses the scheduled date of the products and services. Maintaining the official activity and works an employee has to use the daily tasks based on the routine.  To be successful students need to develop the skills which give them success easily in the future workplace. This foundation of skills and competency gives strengths at the future workplace (Karagozlu, 2018).

According to Alajmi (2019), a manager or employees of an organization need to uses computers which have to develop at the primary stage of student life. Practising computer’s skills promotes the interpersonal skills of the student. Computer skill develops the student strength which may present a different lecture and adapt himself in the different situation. Sometimes a student needs to Therefore in the classroom a student has to present the papers and research that has been completed individually and group-wise. So, students need to write and use the different applications and software, uses of the software and other skills promote the student capacity in upgrading the academic results.

Therefore, with the use of computer’s programs in workplace settings, managers have to calculate the employees billing to the company. All the activity of the company depends on the proper uses of the applications and software.

Five recommendations that could help students improve the content of their CVs.

The HR department of a company checks the skills and competencies of the job applicants which has to submit to the authority in a specific way. A company may recruit the employees through giving opportunities of the application directly to the web sites or the company may give the preference in mailing. In this process, the job applicant has to submit their CV. The strengths of CV promote the chances to get specific jobs. As the company depends on the CV to check the need qualities and skills for the certain jobs. So, writing a formal CV a student has to depend on certain issues in the organization. The following issues may improve the student’s probability of getting certain jobs.

According to Ülger (2016), a student has to prepare their CV based on the co-curriculum activities which show the interest of the students. In submitting the student CV, a student should have to present the co-curriculum activities of students that increases the chances of getting a better job. Participating in co-curricular activities could help to boost students CVs. In co-curricular activities, a student can learn many things which make different among others and will help to improve CVs (Pawliczak, 2015). Co-curricular activities include, join an educative club, science Olympiad, Social activities, helping organizations and others.  Proper knowledge of digital technology and computer operating system plays a pivotal role to improve students CVs. At present, without learning computer systems and browsing the internet in the right way, a student’s curriculum vitae will not be so heavy as the job market wanted from a candidate to offer a higher paid job. Skills on computer knowledge include Microsoft office, excel, PowerPoint and others. A student should try to improve his CV gradually by gathering skills.

According to Chawla (2021), writing a formal cover letter may help to improve the content of a CV. For a tertiary level student, it is must need to know how to write an exclusive cover letter to apply for a job. If a student writes a perfect cover letter, and then the possibility to get the job is very easy. So, by knowing the system how to write the cover letter for a cv, a student can improve the content of the CV.

According to Ülger (2016), the student should try to format a CV within as short as possible. CV content never improves by writing elaborately. The CV should be brief as always. If a student writes a CV in short, then the company or who offered the job can focus on applicants’ main strengths and weaknesses. If the CV is so long, then it may not be able to impress the authority properly.

Therefore, in writing a CV, the student has to keep in mind the required skills and competencies for the job. So, a student has to prepare the application based on targeting the skills. Therefore, properly presentation of the skills and competencies increases the chances of getting a better job.

In writing CV students need to prepare the job application by presenting their previous job experience which increases the chances of getting the job. A student has to ensure standard writing of CV through presenting the portfolios, skills and job experiences, Moreover, students need to present error-free and typing mistakes for submitting the jobs (Cottrell, 2019).

Conclusion

In getting a better job in a competitive workplace, a student has to prepare in developing the skills for better success. If a student can gather leadership skills, then he or she will be successful to manage everything in academic life as well as in the future workplace. A student’s academic life may be challenging to handle properly, and then if a student is skilled as creative and innovative, he or she can maintain those challenges. Without obtaining decision-making skills, a student never reaches any successful stages at academic career and also professional life.
